Cardiff

Cardiff is a coastal port city on the Bristol Channel in south Wales along the River Taff. The settlement took its Welsh language name Caerdydd from the ancient Roman fortification beside the river. The Senedd building accommodates the Welsh parliament, where elected members gather to debate policy and pass devolved legislation.

The Roman army established an auxiliary fort at the river crossing in the 1st century. National Museum Cardiff houses Impressionist oil paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir alongside prehistoric Welsh gold artifacts and geological fossil collections. Principality Stadium incorporates a retractable roof and turf pitch to host international rugby union tournaments, boxing matches, and outdoor athletic events. Cardiff University instructs undergraduate students in medical sciences, architecture, and engineering across neoclassical Portland stone faculties situated around Cathays Park.
